Peerless Hospital and B. K. Roy Research Centre with 500 beds played a significant role to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The frontline workers worked with dedication and treated patients with strategic interventions, hand in hand, with the government agencies following all the guidelines laid down by the Government. Peerless Hospital and B. K. Roy Research Centre is now geared to handle any unexpected crisis in the future. Among current projects of the Research Wing a postal survey is tracking the COVID-19 survivors who were hospitalized in Peerless Hospital during the Pandemic. The objective is to identify the residual complications caused by the disease to take remedial measures. Sero-surveillance studies by testing Anti-SARS-COV2 (COVID-19) IGG Antibody levels among the vaccine recipients is another positive step to manage future outbreaks. Some of our observational data on disease dynamics has been communicated and are slated to be published in prestigious journals with high impact.

Many prestigious awards like ‘Pride of India 2022’ bestowed by the South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development have inspired us immensely. We were also the recipients of the ET Health Leaders West Bengal 2022 Awards and adjudged 1st in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2nd in Emergency Medicine and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and 3rd in Oncology as well as in ENT. Other Awards include ABP Ananda Swasthya Samman 2022 for excellence in Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Confederation of Indian Industries Award 2022 for recognizing our excellence in Nursing Care, ICC Excellence Awards 2022 for the Best Hospital in Quality Control, Best Hospital in Healthcare Delivery and Best Hospital of the Year in Eastern Region. ET Leaders West Bengal 2023 Awards also came our way. We topped in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and was awarded the 2nd place in Oncology, Emergency & Trauma Care, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and was 3rd in Orthopaedics & Traumatology and ENT Head & Neck Surgery. Two of our physicians were awarded the Times of India Award ‘Times Power Women’ for their clinical excellence. Peerless Hospital was considered to be the Best Multispeciality Hospital in 2022 to receive the Times Business Award 2022. Our presence at the Kolkata International Book Fair in the Management of Medical Emergencies was deeply appreciated.
In the field of scientific advancements, the recently organized ‘Medicon International-2022’ was a scientific extravaganza. Physicians from Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh were roped in. The National Seminar on ‘Patients’ Safety’ held recently was the first of its kind in Eastern India. The academic section of Peerless Hospital conducted a day-long workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ as a part of capacity building program for the DNB faculties and Institutional Ethics Committee members. This year Peerless Hospital has been granted DNB postgraduate seats in couple of new disciplines including Paediatrics and Radiology. Several Masters Courses (MSc) for paramedical professionals on Laboratory Sciences and Critical Care Technology in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission have been instituted.

In the wake of transformational changes, we have taken up a dream project to establish a comprehensive state-of-the-art Oncology Block in memory of our Mentor Late S. K. Roy. Necessary civil constructions are in progress. At the outset we created a multidisciplinary Tumor Board which is a platform to exchange views on multivariate modalities of cancer therapy. Establishing the ‘B. K. Roy Institute of Medical Sciences and Peerless Hospital’ is also close to our hearts. 150 Medicos will have the opportunity to join the Institute per session and augment our human resources. In spite of all these achievements we still have miles to go before we can transform ourselves meaningfully to serve the ailing and those in need of medical help.
